On the lake that is the Blue Nile’s inception, Lake Tana in western Ethiopia is home to many Islands that support innumerable monastery’s.  One of the highlights of a visit to the lake is to see these sometimes centuries old religious edifices.  On a visit to Debra Maryam, I was honoured with the opportunity to take the portrait of this old priest whose role it is to look after the 900 year old artefacts behind him, a job he obviously relished.
