There is something in photography that attracts me to the detail of things around me.  Like photographing insects (when they stay still long enough), photographing or capturing the finer detail that makes up a much larger ‘thing’ (in this case a gate) you can really appreciate it for its whole!  Too philosophical? Ok, so this is a gate of the Sacre Coeur Basilica in Paris, France.  Famous because legend has it St. Denis, the cities patron, carried his own beheaded noggin after being martyred several kilometres to this site!  Don’t you just love fables?

  1. This seems like very “old Paris” or Secret Gardenish, with the paint peeling. I like it a lot!

    • Yes, when looking this close at things you can imagine them in many more scenarios. I think that this opens the imagination … to not only see things in detail but to then look at the image later and discover that it would not be out of place in many more scenes!
