Living lightly

We all wish we could have a small impact on this Earth, our only home.  Most of the Ethiopian population still make their homes from local materials – namely timber, clay, grass and animal dung – even in the city.  Commonly referred to in Amharic as gojobeyt (small round house), these dwellings are beautifully designed and often decorated inside and out using traditional designs.  The small building to the right is a store for grains. They also blend so well with the surrounding environment.

This home was photographed near Lake Langano, central Ethiopia.
